Cultivation and Processing

Plantation, Processing plant, Factory

Situated on the mountain as you drive through the Piekenierskoof pass, Carmién tea is your first stop on the rooibos route and the gateway to the Cedarberg.

Carmién Tea is an established rooibos brand in the South African retail market as well as several international retail markets. The Carmién product range includes various flavours and herbal blends which offers a tea for any occasion and personal preference - be sure to join us for an exciting food, wine & tea pairing! Also have a look at our range of tea accessories.

At Carmién we believe in offering you a direct link from crop to cup, ensuring total food traceability whilst offering superior quality organic and conventional rooibos. We therefore welcome you to the farm Bergendal, where it all started.

Founder and now managing director, Mientjie Mouton grew up here with her twin sister Carmen Niehaus, well-known food editor of You and Huisgenoot - hence the name Carmién (which suitably also means red). Here we handle the whole process from harvesting, processing to packing.

You are welcome to book (essential) any of the below Rooibos Tour options:

  • Factory visit and video R50 pp
  • Tea tasting & Video screening R110 pp or R55 pp for more than 5 people
